Jimi's Stratocaster

September 18, 1970 is the death date of Jimi Hendrix. He was 27. In a few short years he remade what an electric guitar could sound like, and the Fender Stratocaster became part of that image: upside-down for a left-handed player, loud, and hard to mistake for anyone else.

Votes for Women

September 19, 1893 is when Governor Lord Glasgow gave royal assent to New Zealand's Electoral Act 1893. Adult women, including Maori women, gained the right to vote in parliamentary elections. New Zealand became the first self-governing country to do so, and September 19 is still marked there as Suffrage Day.

Votes for Women is an ornate Victorian set: burgundy velvet, gold trim, a white camellia, and a silver fern. A quiet pointer for a loud political win.

Beer and Pretzel

September 19 to October 4, 2026 is this year's Munich Oktoberfest. The festival opens on the Theresienwiese with the mayor's ceremonial keg tap, then runs for more than two weeks of beer tents, brass bands, and folk dress. It remains the largest event of its kind.

The Analyst

September 23, 1939 is the death date of Sigmund Freud at his home in Hampstead, London. Forced out of Vienna after the Nazi annexation of Austria, he spent his last year in exile. He founded psychoanalysis and left a consulting-room image that still sticks: couch, quiet, and a lot of interpretation.
