Weekly recap - Bitcoin, Halloween, Abangan, jellyfish, and the midterms
Five Cursor Craft sets for the week of November 5: Bitcoin, Pumpkin Hex, Abangan, Animated Coral Spotted Jellyfish, and Democratic Blue.
A week has flown by. Satoshi's white paper turned 18, Halloween landed on a Saturday, Abangan honored the waters, World Jellyfish Day came and went, and U.S. voters handed both chambers of Congress to Democrats. Five standalone sets.
The headlines
- October 31, 2008 is when Satoshi Nakamoto posted "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System" to the cryptography mailing list. October 31, 2026 marked 18 years since that release.
- October 31 is Halloween (All Hallows' Eve): costumes, jack-o'-lanterns, and a night that still leans a little supernatural.
- November 1, 2026 (10 Aban 1405) is a common civil-calendar date for Abangan (also Abanagan), the Persian festival of the waters linked to Anahita. Some Zoroastrian Fasli calendars place the same observance on October 26.
- November 3 is World Jellyfish Day, often tied to southern-hemisphere spring, when jellyfish start showing up along many coasts.
- November 3, 2026 was U.S. midterm Election Day. Democrats won majorities in both the House and the Senate.
New sets this week
Bitcoin

October 31, 2008, 18:10 UTC. Satoshi Nakamoto emailed the cryptography mailing list under the subject "Bitcoin P2P e-cash paper," pointed to bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf, and sketched a cash system with no mint and no trusted third party. Double-spending would be stopped by a peer-to-peer proof-of-work chain, not a bank. Eighteen years later that nine-page PDF is still the origin story.
Bitcoin keeps the paper metaphor on the pointer. Orange and white, with the Bitcoin mark folded into the default arrow and a matching pointing hand cuffed in the same orange B.
Pumpkin Hex

October 31 is Halloween. The name comes from All Hallows' Eve, the night before All Saints' Day. Carved pumpkins, costumes, and porch lights still mark the date across a lot of the world. In 2026 it fell on a Saturday, which only made the evening longer.
Pumpkin Hex leans into that glow. A jack-o'-lantern for the default pointer. For links, a skeletal hand in a torn witch cuff. Pumpkin orange, aged bone, and deep purple do the rest.
Abangan

November 1, 2026 falls on 10 Aban 1405, a date many civil calendars use for Abangan. The festival honors the waters and Anahita (Aredvi Sura Anahita). People gather by rivers and springs for offerings that strengthen the waters. Fasli Zoroastrian calendars often mark the same feast on October 26 instead. Same festival, different calendar math.
Abangan is a water-and-ornament set for that day. Turquoise fountains, white blossoms, lotus flowers, blue birds, and gold detail fill the familiar pointer and hand shapes.
Animated Coral Spotted Jellyfish

November 3 is World Jellyfish Day. The founding story is fuzzy (sources bounce between 2013 and 2014), but the date is often linked to southern spring, when blooms pick up along the coast. Jellyfish have been in the ocean for hundreds of millions of years. No bones, no blood, no centralized brain, and still a full role in the food web once researchers stopped treating them as a dead end.
Animated Coral Spotted Jellyfish puts one on a four-frame loop. The bell bobs, six tentacles ripple, and a compact triangle cursor covers everyday pointing. A back-of-hand state covers links.
Democratic Blue

November 3, 2026 was Election Day for the U.S. midterms. By the next day, AP and other major desks had called both chambers for Democrats. The Senate moved to at least 54 seats (including independents who caucus with Democrats) after a net gain of about seven, including flips in states that had not sent a Democrat to the Senate in decades. The House crossed the 218-seat majority with a gain on the order of 30 seats. A few races were still counting as of November 5, but the chamber flip was not in doubt.
Democratic Blue is a bold blue set with a glossy beveled finish, crisp highlights, and deep navy edging. Classic arrow and matching pointing hand, built for strong contrast on a busy desktop.
