Weekly recap - Mehregan, German Unity, Moulin Rouge, and Octopus Day
Five Cursor Craft sets for the week of October 8: Mehregan, Berlin Wall Breakthrough, Feather Revue, Octo Signal, and Cloud 5.
A week has flown by. German Unity Day, the Moulin Rouge anniversary, Mehregan, and World Octopus Day all landed on the calendar. Five standalone sets.
The headlines
- October 3, 1990 is the official reunification of East and West Germany. Since 1990, October 3 has been German Unity Day (Tag der Deutschen Einheit).
- October 6, 1889 is when the Moulin Rouge opened in Paris at the foot of Montmartre.
- October 8 (16 Mehr in the Persian calendar) is Mehregan, the autumn festival of Mehr: covenant, friendship, light, and the harvest.
- October 8 is World Octopus Day, the opening day of International Cephalopod Awareness Days. Members of The Octopus News Magazine Online (TONMO) started the observance in 2007 and picked the eighth for the eight arms.
New sets this week
Berlin Wall Breakthrough

October 3, 1990 closed the postwar division of Germany. East and West reunified under one state, and the date became the national holiday that marks the end of that split. The Wall itself had opened in November 1989; the legal reunification followed almost a year later.
Berlin Wall Breakthrough takes that history as its cue. The default pointer is a fractured concrete arrow in Germany's black, red, and gold. The link cursor is the back of a hand pushing through the wall, fingertip as the hotspot.
Cloud 5

No calendar hook this time. An extra set from the catalog: soft clouds and an anime-leaning pointing hand.
Cloud 5 pairs that hand with a fluffy cloud cuff. Flat color, simple outlines, built for everyday browsing.
Feather Revue

October 6, 1889 is opening night for the Moulin Rouge. Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler launched the cabaret at Place Blanche, under the red windmill that still marks the spot. Can-can, revue, and late Paris nights grew up around that address.
Feather Revue brings a scrap of that stage to the pointer. A scarlet feather fan for the default cursor. For links, a black satin glove with red nails and a feathered cuff, finished with gold windmill detail.
Mehregan

October 8, 2026 falls on 16 Mehr 1405, a common date for Mehregan. The festival honors Mehr (Mithra): covenant, friendship, justice, and light. In myth it also marks Fereydun and Kaveh's victory over Zahhak. Families still set a sofreh with pomegranates, apples, and other autumn foods. Some Zoroastrian calendars place the same observance on 10 Mehr; the difference is calendar structure, not a second festival.
Mehregan leans into that harvest warmth. Golden sun motifs, pomegranates, grapes, red blossoms, cypress trees, and Persian ornament fill the pointer and pointing hand.
Octo Signal

October 8 opens International Cephalopod Awareness Days as World Octopus Day. TONMO members coined the week in 2007; aquariums and marine labs still mark it. Eight arms, eight day of the month. Simple joke that stuck.
Octo Signal turns one tentacle into a full cursor pair. The default curls into a sharp arrow. The link cursor rises into a clear point. Coral purple, aqua highlights, ivory suction cups, and an ink-blue outline keep the shapes readable.
