Weekly recap - Lugosi, Limoges, Edison, and World Food Day

Four Cursor Craft sets for the week of October 23: Tomorrow's Harvest, The Fallen Tower, Dracula, and Edison's Last Light.

A week has flown by. World Food Day, a town-hall fire in Limoges, Bela Lugosi's birthday, and the old Edison lamp anniversary all landed on the calendar. Four standalone sets.

The headlines

  • October 16 was World Food Day, the annual FAO and UN observance for food security and agrifood systems.
  • October 17 is when the bell tower of Limoges Town Hall collapsed during an arson fire linked to cost-of-living protests across France.
  • October 20, 1882 is when Bela Lugosi was born in Lugos, then in the Kingdom of Hungary. He became the screen's defining Count Dracula.
  • October 21, 1879 is the traditional anniversary of Thomas Edison's incandescent lamp work at Menlo Park, New Jersey.

Tomorrow's Harvest

October 16 is World Food Day. The FAO marks the founding of the organization each year and pushes a theme around hunger, farms, and how food systems hold up. In 2026 the banner was "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow."

Tomorrow's Harvest takes that cue. A green leaf becomes the default arrow, traced with golden circuit veins and a small seed. The pointing state is a back-view gardening glove with a fresh sprout at the hotspot. Warm harvest colors, built around food, care, and a little workshop ingenuity.

The Fallen Tower

The Fallen Tower

October 17, 2026 is when Limoges Town Hall caught fire during protests in France. Rioters set the 1883 building alight. The roof burned, and the campanile came down on camera while firefighters fought the blaze. Prefects called it a heritage disaster. The spire that once topped Place Jacques Chirac is gone.

The Fallen Tower turns that fractured spire into a stone-carved pointer. The link cursor pairs a sculpted back-of-hand gesture with a slate tower cuff. Heavy masonry texture, sharp tip, built to read as carved stone on a desktop.

Dracula

October 20, 1882 is Bela Lugosi's birthday. Born Bela Ferenc Dezso Blasko in Lugos, he crossed stage and screen as Count Dracula, and the 1931 Tod Browning film locked that cape silhouette into horror history.

Dracula is a gothic set built around that Lugosi Count. The cape-shaped default pointer and back-of-hand pointing cursor pair sharp ivory edges with black and blood-red details. Republished for the birthday week.

Edison's Last Light

October 21 became "Edison Day" in later retellings of the Menlo Park lamp story. Lab notebooks put the famous carbonized-thread burn on October 22, 1879, lasting about fourteen and a half hours. Either way, late October 1879 is when Edison's team knew the filament path was real.

Edison's Last Light borrows that workshop mood. The default pointer is a glowing glass bulb with the tip as the hotspot. The link cursor is a copper-and-porcelain mechanical hand, shown from the back with one finger raised. Aged metal, warm filament light, small invention energy from Menlo Park.
